About B.Sc.(Hons.) Agriculture

The study of agriculture is called agricultural science or agricultural technology. The field combines the natural and social sciences, along with economics, engineering and management (particularly natural resources management and business management) of biological systems to practice, development and understand the fields of agriculture and forestry. Being related to the field of Life & Biological Sciences, agricultural science is multidisciplinary and inter-related to Food Science & Technology. Agricultural Science uses the fundamentals of biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics and statistics to solve the problems of agriculture-food industry.

Steps to be followed for online application

Photo and Signature upload


The photograph must be in color and should be taken professionally in a studio with the following specifications:

Photo uploading procedure:

1. The photograph must be taken against a light background. Only White/off-white background is preferred.

2. The photograph must show the full frontal view without tilting of face, both ears visible, open eyes with neutral expression.

3. Make sure there is no glare from spectacles and no blur in the focus.

4. The file should be only in JPEG format.

5. The file size of the photograph should be within 20 kB to 300 kB.

6. The photograph dimension should be of Width(300 to 400 pixels) X Height (400 to 550 pixels).

7. The photograph should not be too dark or too bright but should have optimum exposure.

8.The photograph should have only one face.


Signature uploading procedure:

1. Please draw a rectangular box of size 6 cm (width) X 2 cm (height) on a A4 white paper. Sign with dark blue or black pen within the box.

2. Scan the signature in (.jpeg) format using scanner and crop the image.

3. You can open the scanned signature image with MS Paint and crop the image at the particular rectangular box which was already marked and signed on the A4 white paper.

4. While cropping the image make sure that the dimension should be 3.5 cm (width) X 1.5 cm (height).

5 .The scanned signature image size should be within 5kB to 150 kB.

Eligibility

1. There is NO ENTRANCE EXAMINATION.

2. Applicants who have studied through regular, full-time and formal education are eligible to apply.

3. Students who have appeared for their standard XII examination and are awaiting results are also eligible to apply, provided they submit their passing certificate by the notified date.


Nationality

The applicant should be either a Resident Indian National or a Non-Resident Indian National.


Age Limit

1. Applicants born on or after 01.07.2005 are eligible to apply for B.Sc.(Hons.) Agriculture programme for the academic year 2025

2. Applicants must present Age Proof (Birth certificate / Passport Copy) as proof of their age during counselling/admission. Failure to do so will result in disqualification from the admission process.


Qualifying Examination

1. The final examination of the 10+2 system, conducted by any recognized Central/ State Board, such as the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi; Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations or any other Board accepted by VIT as equivalent to 10+2 examination.

2. Intermediate or two-year Pre-University Examination conducted by a recognized Board/ University.

3. General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level.

4. High School Certificate Examination at the Advanced (A) level of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.

5. Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with minimum of 5 subjects as recognized by central board.

6. Applicants who have completed the Class 12 (or equivalent) examination outside India should produce an equivalence certificate to the effect that the examination they have passed is equivalent to the Class 12 Examination with grade/CGPA converted to percentage.

7. Candidates who have appeared for multiple board examinations in the same academic year are not eligible.


Subject Eligibility

1. A pass with an overall aggregate of 70% with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics/ Biology (Botany & Zoology)/ Agriculture as subjects in the qualifying examination mentioned above.

2. In case, applicants belong to SC/ST community or hail from Jammu and Kashmir/ Ladakh and the North Eastern States of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura, 10% relaxation is provided (i.e.,) 60% minimum aggregate as per the condition, in the qualifying examination mentioned above. Certificate to prove community, Nativity should be produced at the time of counselling failing which they will not be considered for admission.

Selection Criteria

    1. There is NO ENTRANCE EXAMINATION

    2. Admission is through merit and based on mentioned qualifying examination

    3. A Rank list will be prepared on the basis of 10+2 marks

    4. The shortlisted applicants will be called for counselling (virtual).

    5. The fact that a candidate has been qualified and called for counselling does not guarantee admission to him / her. This depends upon the candidate rank and the availability seats.

    6. Provisional admission will be cancelled if the candidate does not meet the eligibility norms.
